The Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland (OSNI) this week published its Corporate Plan 2006-2009 and its Business Plan 2006-2007.
Key points from the Business Plan:
Finance Division:
§ Break even has now been achieved with the implementation of the Northern Ireland Mapping Agreement (NIMA) and OSNI aims to maintain financial self-sustainability.
Operations Division
§ The main focus of the Operations Division is the revision of OSNI’s spatial data, including the large-scale digital data, small-scale mapping and the Pointer address database.
Business Development Division:
§ The main focus of this division will be maximising uptake of OSNI data within eligible organisations now that NIMA has been implemented. The Plan says “As an integral part of NIMA, the management of those accounts that are of strategic importance to OSNI is critical to its success. We will further develop working relationships with these accounts through the implementation of Strategic Account Management Plans, and by making the STAR field intelligence system more widely available. Our partners in the private sector are key to ensuring the success of NIMA, and in building this market base. The development of a Licensed Partner Programme will provide a focus for these efforts, and will ensure that reciprocal marketing and business development”.
Mosaic Programme Office
§ The implementation of NIMA - incorporating the funding of OSNI’s public good activity - will , OSNI hopes, secure the continuation of Mosaic, the Geographic Information Strategy for Northern Ireland. The Plan says “This funding will allow existing investments, including the Mosaic GI Pilots and support for the Northern Ireland Place-Name Project, to be built upon. The main focus of Mosaic will be to support the development and implementation of the GeoHub technical infrastructure, which will provide a Geographic Information shared services platform”.
Key points from the Corporate Plan:
§ OSNI aims to implement the geographical information strategy by December 2007
§ OSNI aims to improve access to its products and services at a reduced cost to the taxpayer by April 2007
